King Day of Service events planned in region
The Martin Luther King Day of Service first began in Philadelphia as a day to celebrate the life of a man who served to bring freedom and justice to the nation. Martin Luther King Jr., who would have turned 81 today, will be honored Monday throughout the country as hundred of thousands of Americans will participate in volunteer projects.

Homeless people in Columbia/Montour PA counties seek support and awareness
Carrying a cat in his jacket wherever he went, Charlie Vetter Jr., Berwick, was homeless and like many of the homeless, was just looking to become recognized as a regular person. There are about 20-25 local homeless people in the Columbia and Montour counties at any time living in their cars, on the streets, or on the fairgrounds of Bloomsburg, according to Gary Clark, executive director of the Northeast Pennsylvania Homeless Alliance. But, he says they remain an invisible demographic.
